WILL MILLENNIALS LOSE NATIONAL SOVEREIGNTY? by Dr. Steven Nur Ahmed

Millenials 2

There is both a national and international plan underfoot. It is being carried out by the power elite. Their goal is to take away judicial jurisdiction out of the hands of the millennial generation as well as all future generations of U.S. citizens. The power elite are carrying out their plan in order to preserve wealth and power on a transnational level in their hands and the hands of their descendants.

Their immediate purpose is to subordinate Federal and State judicial jurisdiction defined by the United States Constitution under Article 3 as well as the 10th amendment.   That would put our highest courts under a new special global corporate legal jurisdiction called the ‘Investors State Dispute Settlements Court’. The consequence is that corporations through the court would then be enabled to sue nations for their projected corporate losses of ‘expected future monetary profits’.

That new legal system called the ‘Investors State Dispute Settlement’ court is designed to dominate both Federal and State courts in matters relating to foreign corporate interests in the United States and throughout the pacific rim. That system would make U.S. citizens pay billions of dollars in fines if they pass laws to protect U.S. interests which conflict with and interfere with foreign corporate profits.

The plan is called the Trans Pacific Partnership Agreement. If it is signed into law by the next President of the United States, it will signal the first step to an end of United States Sovereign power and the beginning of direct multinational corporate control over the U.S. military, forever.

It is an agreement made by the 1% to 10% of power elites defined by Forbes 400 Magazine in 2015, the 40 pacific rim nation prospective signatories, multinational corporations, Wall Street, the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund, and International Bank of Settlements. They all want the aggreement to be signed by President Barak Obama. He wants to sign it, too. He works for them.

Those parties and institutions want our Congress and the President to make the TPP agreement binding with no sunset clause in it. They want that because such a law will take away not only judicial jurisdiction over companies and nations doing business in the the United States but also to take away their right to bear arms which the power elite perceive to be a great threat to their growing power in the United States.

They want to limit legal jurisdiction of Federal and State courts, and they want total control over the U.S. military and the industries which support it.  In short, they want absolute power because the national political winds are no longer blowing in their favor. They can feel it pressing against their faces.

They see before their eyes a political turn that is occurring and have marked it as a hinge period in U.S. political history. A period which has the potential to irreversibly change the course of world history against their interests.

They know that there will be no going back to the days when they could work in the shadows. They know that they must act now and they plan to do so under a Presidency of either Obama, Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump. For they see demographic, economic, and state and federal voting patterns are now threatening their power.

Millennials pass Baby Boomers

The Millennials are making their political and economic frustrations and anger known to the world. The millennials are defined as those born between 1981 to those reaching the age of 18 years of age in 2016. In 2015, the millennial generation population is over 70 million; it has surpassed the baby boom population which numbered over 60 million persons born between 1945 and 1964.[1] Their postmodern political preferences are now being felt. Old political boundaries mean nothing to them; justice, the environment, and their future means everything to them.

During the recent democratic party nomination process, the effect of postmodern millennial culture was a political quake. More than 80% of all votes for democratic party socialist Bernie Sanders were cast by millennials. It was a clear statement of their collective sentiment for social change. For them, the prospect of Hillary Clinton becoming president of the United States is cause for them to have high anxiety and for good reasons.

Hillary Clinton is unalterably tied to and personally loyal to Wall Street financial interests. Millennials know that her husband Bill Clinton signed into law the repeal of the Glass-Steagall act of 1933 which set in motion the economic collapse of 2008. They know Bill Clinton signed into law the welfare reformation act. They know that Bill Clinton signed into law N.A.F.T.A. All at the behest of Wall Street and corporate interests. They know it has cost them uncounted thousands of jobs. They know that it was Bill and Hillary Clinton who signed into law outrageous prison sentences for petty non-violent drug offenders.  They know that Hillary Clinton is duplicitous by design.

Millennials know that the Clinton Foundation has clear international conflicts of interests ranging from deals with shady individuals, foreign corporations to nation states such as Saudi Arabia. All of that underscores to millennials that there will be no respite from their lives of debt. Even now, 31% of all Federal assets are student loans over 1.2 trillion dollars.[2] The Federal Government has become dependent on students remaining in financial debt for student loans for life.

Fasces

Millennials know that they are being slowly enclosed within the walls of a new kind of color blind global slave plantation. A plantation system which approximates the Roman Empire more than any other since ancient Rome. They know what that means for them. The ‘Fasces’ will be carried by a new global legal system with a mercenary global military to back it up. Millennials know that if they do not act now they will not have the freedom to act in the near future.

Millions of millennials are and will continue to be under employed at low paying jobs in the service sector economy and forced to live at home with their parents well into their 30s with no change in sight. They have therefore beaten a new path.

Millennials have sought an anti-neo-liberal and Republican path because they have no confidence in the political status quo. That has led the power elite to political panic and mayhem on the streets of America. For the first time in over 100 years we are seeing a democratic nominee, Hillary Clinton, supported by both a fractured and corrupt democratic party combined with corrupt republicans. Republicans who have abandoned the GOP because a national revolt by disenfranchised grass root ‘white’ Americans have gutted the Republican Party.

New political sentiments driven by a new born national conscience are threatening to redistribute the wealth of the power elite and restructure its armed guard…the sheriffs’ and police departments. Thus, the TPP is an instrument for the elite to maintain their wealth and power.

The TPP has an ultimate aim. Their aim is to take away Federal and State judicial jurisdiction over corporations in the TPP from all future generations of the U.S regardless of race and gender. They aim to do that because they know that if they don’t take away Federal and State judicial jurisdition over the TPP then any law passed in their favor under either Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump will be repealed after one or the other leaves office. They know they have lost control over the two party system; thus they will be less able to manipulate nominees to power. The power elite know that a whole new political order is on the horizon. They are running frenzied at the mere thought of it.

Non white outnumber whites

The power elite face yet another problem looming on the horizon. It was reported by the Pew Research Center in June of 2016 that: “The bureau’s (Census Bureau) estimates for July 1, 2015, released today, say that just over half – 50.2% – of U.S. babies younger than 1-year-old were racial or ethnic minorities. In sheer numbers, there were 1,995,102 minority babies compared with 1,982,936 non-Hispanic white infants, according to the census estimates.”[3] Assuming conditions remain more or less the same, a higher birth rate of racial minority infants will continue resulting in a majority non-white U.S. population.

The days when the fallacious racial strategy of ‘appeal to the silent majority’ to garner votes are over. So now the power elite have a big problem because most of the wealth in the United States and the world is concentrated in the hands of a small group of about 10% of the white population. They can no longer rely on old majority numbers.

So what of the United State military? What role will it play? There has already been a corporate coup d’etat of the U.S. military. For example, it was reported by ‘Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics’ in Washington D.C. and ‘the Brave New Foundation’ that “…70% of retired three and four star generals took jobs with defense contractors or consultants.”[4]

That fact demonstrates that the U.S. military has been for over 100 years infiltrated by Wall Street and corporate money. Money and the manufacturers of war materials actually control the military just as police and sheriffs’ departments across the nation control city politicians when it is in their interests to do so.

The cooptation of the United States military by TPP courts will give TPP the global muscle to enforce its corporate legal jurisdiction as the military has done for domestic corporations since its inception.[5]

Finally, for the power elite, U.S. citizens must be disarmed. If Hillary Clinton is elected she will appoint a Supreme Court Justice or justices who will swing court voting in that direction. It will give the court a majority vote in some obscure case which makes its way up the court system. The Second Amendment will be so watered down that over time only shot guns will be lawful in one’s home.

The de facto repeal of the second amendment to the United States Constitution is viewed by the power elite as necessary. They see it as necessary because the power elite fear an armed citizenry and know it cannot be subordinated to tyranny whether that tyranny is foreign or domestic. If and when the above plans come to fruition it will be the end of the United States of America as a sovereign nation.

The Millennials and every generation which follows after them will lose their constitutional power to reverse decisions made by the Investors State Dispute Settlement (ISDS) court if they are not proactive in changing the political status quo.

THOU SHALT NOT WAGE A RELIGIOUS CRUSADE IN THE NAME OF THE U.S. CONSTITUTION, by Dr. Steven Nur Ahmed

Crusade 1

Millions of right wing religious and secular conservatives in the Republican party are increasing their push to repress Islam and Muslims in the United States. Those same people and the media which propagandize their views are also voices for war against Islam and therefore against all Muslims in the world. Except for the exercise of their own right to freedom of speech, Donald Trump’s (and Republicans like him) proposed State and Federal policies for Muslims are unconstitutional because they would restrict Muslim speech and are thus tyrannical by definition.

Those same people and media intentionally ignore those parts of the first amendment which do not serve their immediate political agenda but nevertheless run parallel to the right to free speech.

Muslims may practice their religious beliefs in the United States because “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof;”. Here, the preposition ‘respecting’ means that no ‘religious beliefs’ in the United States can be legally recognized as a natural nor legal person under the law. A religious belief is not constitutionally required to be incorporated under States’ corporate laws and thus need not be a ‘legal person’. The term ‘establishment’ means simply ‘articulable beliefs’ even in the absence of any concrete infrastructure.

For example, a specific set of religious beliefs cannot be sued in civil court. Nor can a warrant be issued under the fourth amendment to arrest a ‘religious belief’ to appear in a criminal court because all religious beliefs operate outside the jurisdiction of both civil and criminal law. That is what it means to have ‘religious freedom’ in the United States. Therefore, Islamic beliefs held by persons in the United States cannot be criminalized nor can ‘Islamic beliefs’ be named as a tortfeasor in a civil complaint.

Islam as a set of beliefs cannot be legally prohibited from being believed by people and Islamic beliefs cannot be prohibited from being practiced in the United States and its protectorates. That is so because only ‘natural persons’ who commit an act which violates a State or Federal statute, or crime against humanity can be arrested and denied freedom under either State or Federal criminal law.

Crusade 2

No ‘natural person’ who commits a crime in the name of a particular religion can be charged in the name of his or her religion; only a person or group of persons can be charged with violation of a clearly defined criminal statute. Further, beliefs cannot be criminally charged because neither state nor federal law can ‘recognize’ the ‘beliefs’ of a religion.

Islamic faith is not a natural or legal person. Therefore, only an individual or corporation that commits a criminal act can be held responsible even though he or she or it may claim to be Islamic. For Islamic religious beliefs cannot ‘act’ to commit crimes. Nor can Islamic religious beliefs form an ‘intent’ to commit a criminal act. Both common law and statutory law clearly state that only natural persons and legal persons can form an intent and commit an act that violates a State or Federal criminal statute.

Therefore, it would be unconstitutional for any state or for the federal government to indict a natural person as being identical to a ‘religious belief’ or to indict a religious belief as being identical to a ‘natural or legal person’.  Such a distinction between a person’s actions and his or her ‘religious beliefs’ is a manifestation of the legal superiority of the first amendment precept of separation of church and state. A man or woman cannot be detained nor killed for his or her religious beliefs.

Neither would it be constitutional under the first amendment for the federal government to wage war against Islam anywhere for crimes committed by an individual or group of individuals even though those people may claim to be adherents to Islamic beliefs. For to wage war against Islam everywhere would be to wage war not against natural persons but against ‘Islamic religious beliefs’ and the idea which gives rise to those beliefs and therefore it would be war against all Muslims in the United States, too.

WE ARE LIVING IN A DARK AGE, by Dr. Steven Nur Ahmed

death-in-the-hood

Most people in the United States are taught to associate the Dark Ages with a period in European history between the 5th and 15th centuries after the fall of the Roman Empire.  Discussions about the ‘Dark Ages’ usually turn on the social and economic relation between peasants and landlords, various warlords, the Catholic Church, as well as people’s overall quality of life. People then were dirt poor, they were generally unhealthy, and they lived short lives averaging about 23 years of age.

Discussion of the general characteristics of the Dark Ages is usually avoided in K- through 12 public schools in the United States and it is glossed over as simply being the consequence of the fall of the Roman Empire as though the Romans were enlightened peoples.

Also ignored is the idea that a ‘Dark Age’ is not necessarily a social condition frozen in the past nor should it be singularly identified by a number of dead European cultures.

But on a higher plane, the Dark Ages were not only  an exterior set of material conditions blocking human intellectual and material development but rather the Dark Ages was also a culture reflective of an interior absence of conscientiousness in each person who lived in it.

In order to avoid confusion, let me define two concepts for you. First, the word conscience means an inner feeling or voice viewed as acting as a guide to the rightness or wrongness of one’s behavior and the capacity in a person to empathize with other peoples’ feelings and conditions.  Secondly, a ‘Dark Age’ means a high point in cultural dysfunction which is not limited to the past nor measured by a societies technological development.

A dark age is a majority human population at any particular moment in human history which is characterized by extreme scientific ignorance, vulgarity, frivolity, lack of hygiene, cruelty such as torture, endless economically motivated warfare, human economic exploitation, religious superstition, and an absence of popular conscientious sentiment.

My question is whether or not those characteristics fit the United States and global nations today? My answer is that those definitions do describe today’s societies. Except for a very small minority of people, we are right now living in a historical moment of high social dysfunction all over the world.

But I should clarify what I don’t mean by ‘a very small minority’. What I do not mean by ‘a very small minority are formally educated people such as scientists, technicians, and oligarchs.

Scientific knowledge and mechanical skills as well as having had a liberal arts education is not necessarily indicative of conscientiousness. In fact, it may be indicative of the exact opposite.  We know that as evidenced by the corruption in both our state and federal judicial systems.

Conscientious self-questioning is not practiced outside the narrow circle of self-interests by the majority of the educated classes. And the problem only gets worse among the less educated and poor in society because they are usually imitative of upper class mores.

Beyond_Dutroux_header_image

We know that because a majority of lower class citizens in the United States support crimes against humanity now being perpetrated in the world.  Those same people are also silent on the moral issues surrounding commercial degradation of the global environment. For example, recently it was uncovered that the Governor of Michigan approved for use contaminated water for citizens in Flint Michigan. Flint Michigan is a city with a 56% black population. Thousands of people are now suffering the adverse side effects of lead poisoning and will continue to suffer through the duration of their lives.

The fact that it was done knowingly and with reckless disregard for human life is evidence of a contradiction between what politicians say when they take an oath of office and what they do to innocent people who stand in the way of their own interests when they are in positions of power. Another example is Rob Emmanuel the mayor of Chicago Illinois. That mayor attempted to suppress evidence of a cold blooded killing of a black youth in Chicago. Then, another case emerged in which the district attorney withheld evidence in the case of another black man who was killed by police for no cause. Rob Emmanuel suppressed that information as well. But for having been caught, Rob Emmanuel would care less about those two unjustified police killings.

Pop-Magazine-TH-Mad-Scientist

But how does the lack of moral conscience show itself in the scientific community? There are 5.8 million scientists in the world. Of that total number, there are 2.5 million scientists who are U.S. citizens and that number does not include the millions of technical support professionals who work with them on projects.

The majority of those scientists and technicians are employed by commercial institutions which contract with governments to make technologies designed to inflict death on whole populations of human beings as well as to degrade the natural environment. Most of those very same scientists make no conscientious objection to the uses of their technological innovations by the companies and governments they are employed by. They simply work for money and scientific prestige. Why are they so indifferent?

One reason for their lack of conscientiousness is their adherence to atheism. Atheism literally means ‘against God’ or anti-God and the counter belief that life is inherently meaningless. For example, in the United States, 93% of all top scientists who belong to the ‘National Academy of Sciences’ are self-proclaimed atheists.[1]

This is one reason which explains why they suffer no moral dilemma about making weapons of mass destruction and the use of those weapons on both human populations and the natural environment. I think of all the napalm bombs which were dropped upon the people and jungles in Vietnam and of cluster bombs being used to kill civilians in Yemen by Saudi Arabia today. The scientists who invented those weapons never protest against the use of those weapons.

The vast majority of people are not knowledgeable of the mechanical or electronic nature of the technology they use on a daily basis. For instance, the fact that cell phones emit dangerous radiation is unknown by the average person. The average person could not explain how an internal combustion engine works to generate energy even though the vast majority of them have been living in societies where cars have been driven for over one hundred years.

The truth is that there is no reason to accept a claim that every human being has reached a historically unparalleled rise in consciousness let alone conscientiousness. Not even a significant percentage of human beings have reached higher conscientiousness. Otherwise the average person would be intelligent enough to comprehend how they are politically manipulated and stop it and we would not be in the national and global predicament we are in now.

The truth is that most people still subscribe to old myths and stereotypes; they are the very same myths and stereotypes which guided beliefs and behaviors of people 5000 years ago. Most people are willing to act on those kinds of beliefs even if their actions result in crimes against humanity. For example, recently a Muslim women stood up at a Donald Trump presidential political rally wearing a T-Shirt which read: ‘Salaam, I come in peace’.  As she stood silently, the crowd nearly attacked her physically.  She was taken out of the arena by armed security guards. The crowd displayed subconscious mob reactions to negative stereotypes. Had they been triggered more by Donald Trump, they would have killed that woman. That is an example of what happens in a ‘Dark Age’.

Other examples are the many secular atrocities of the twentieth century. Those atrocities evidence the general lack of global conscientiousness within people everywhere and especially among scientists and the oligarchs or ruling elites in all nations. For example, over 250,000,000 (million) people died in secular wars waged during the 20th century.

Even now, in the twenty-first century, the United Nations stand by passively in the face of Zionist crimes against humanity ranging from the forced sterilization of Black Falasha Jews which has resulted in a 40% decrease in the Falasha fertility rate within the last 10 years. They stand by passively as African immigrants are forcibly put into concentration camps and they stand by while the military killing of thousands of civilians with reckless disregard in Palestine over the last 5 to 8 years continues.

The United Nations’ inactive enforcement of human rights furthers this dark age we live in. It either cannot act or refuses to act in Iraq, Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, and Israel against the execution of thousands of civilian Sunni and Shi’a Muslims by Isis and governmental gangsters who are funded by Saudi Arabia, Israel, and the United States.

The United Nations stands by impotent in the face of global arms sells by western nations to reckless gangster governments; and it lacks a definitive policy for global environmental protection in the face of extreme climate change and increasing climate catastrophes.

In all cases cited above, large populations and their governments are complicit and are glaring examples of individuals and governments that lack conscientiousness. These examples, therefore, support my claim that the Dark Age never stopped. The dark age continues to exist and paradoxically the dark age we live in runs parallel to our highest human conscious aspirations.

Despite our highest human conscious aspirations, superstition has been dressed up and given the form of pseudo-science and modern political gibberish. But be not fooled because they are the same old superstitions of centuries past. And with those superstitions and stereotypes, the masses of people have adapted modern technology and science to their barbarism and atheism. These new modes of doing evil acts have been put to the service of a new generation of psychopaths and have made both religious and secular warfare more deadly and exploitative of human beings than ever before.

zombie-apocalypse

A pall hangs over the entire world. We are thus living in a dark age. A dark age as frightening as any other dark age that has existed in the past. Humanity is in tow by the presence of death.

EITHER UNALIENABLE RIGHTS OR ABSOLUTELY NOTHING AT ALL, by Dr. Steven Nur Ahmed

Declaration_of_Independence_draft_(detail_with_changes_by_Franklin)

Thomas Jefferson wrote the Declaration of Independence. Its publish date is July 4, 1776. Therein it states four simple propositions: 1. “We hold these truths to be self-evident, 2. that all men are created equal, 3. that they are endowed by their Creator with certain un-alienable Rights, 4. that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.” These four propositions evidence an extra potential in all human beings.

There are moments however few they may be when some men and some women have extra dimensional inspired moments which unfetter their minds; moments when they are raised above their egos, their selfish concerns, their worldly ambitions, and their desire for worldly immortality. They rise above desires for what is impossible to what is possible…and what is inevitable.

They briefly peep Transcendent Magnificence; they peep ‘What it is’; ‘What is above all’, yet ‘What is inclusive of all’.  It takes them awhile to understand the significance of what they have seen. But eventually they do come to understand what it is.

Yet, sometimes those same men and women who are enraptured in deep inspired thoughts and who do express transcendent propositions do not themselves fully comprehend their own thoughts in their own times and circumstances.

Their own comprehension is cancelled out by hundreds of moral contradictions inherent in their lives, by the thought constraints imposed upon them by their cultures, and by natural resistance itself. We know for instance that many of Thomas Jefferson’s moral contradictions are manifest in his book: ‘Notes on the State of Virginia’ and in his relation with his slave Sally Hemings and the five children they sired.

But even simple biological acts such as eating and sleeping cut their inspired moments short and in so doing makes them limp along, …just another wretched of the earth… here for a while to live and then to die.

For all those reasons they are preoccupied; therefore, it should be of no surprise to anyone that they miss the fine profundity of their own inspired thoughts and expressed propositions. When that happens the train of history jumps a track.

The United States has jumped its tracks many times since the implementation of the 13th, 14th, 15th, 18th, and 19th amendments to the U.S constitution. It is jumping it’s tracks today.

Driven by primitive sentiments of misguided white people and fanned by white supremacists’ propaganda media like the Fox Television Network, every non-white ethnic population in the United States has been a target of or is targeted now by their social and economic frustrations. For example, Asian Americans, Native Americans, African Americans, Mexican Americans, Buddhists, Muslims, and Catholics have all been at one time or even now the target of some white people’s anger and violence.

National derailment occurs when some white people fail to understand simple cause and effect relations or deny the facts in front of them that state unequivocally that other white people are stealing from them, too.

They conclude wrongly that Mexicans or African Americans or Muslims are the causes of the collapse of their middle class status and their debt enslavement, but they are wrong. For example, African and Latino Americans own approximately a combined 4% of the total national wealth compared to white Americas’ ownership of 85% of all national wealth. Thus, they are not an immediate threat to the white upper and lower middle classes.

median-net-worth-by-race-2007

The truth is that middle and lower class whites have always been tricked and exploited by people of their own ethnicity, i.e. other white people, and the evidence supports that premise. For instance, in a recent article entitled: ‘The Forbes 400 and the Rest of Us’, it states that there are 20 United States citizens whose combined wealth is greater than the bottom half of the American population or 152 million American citizens. Those 20 people are white people not African, Asian, and Latino Americans.

IncomeWealth

Failing to logically comprehend what those facts suggest some white people become frustrated and then angry. Angry because they are not getting a share of the loot promised to them by rich white people when the United States was founded under the canopy of white supremacy and articulated in Article 1, section 2, clause 3 of the United States Constitution.

They were promised that their ‘whiteness’ is all that matters. Now they know that they exchanged their allegiance to the myth of white supremacy for a false premise because ‘black lives matter’, too. But they don’t want to accept that truth. They are resisting that truth. They think as though they live in the year 1915 instead of 2015.

Tragically, that ‘stinking thinking’ must lay around until future generations of young and passionate souls are awakened by their own inspired thoughts.

Such young people, though always a minority in the masses, are eager to learn and to make the world a better world than what they inherited; to discover, unravel, and intellectually explore those words anew for themselves. For each generation is a fresh psychic force pushing against the pendulum of human affairs farther away from tyranny and ever closer to justice for all.

Justice is in their sight.  Justice is standing with a collection of all inspired truths in one hand but with a sword in its other hand. That is to remind us that in order to insure the continuity of inspiration through us there will be times when we must fight and sacrifice against all opposition to our persons and to our storehouse of inspired literature whether it be the Psalms of David, the Gospel of Thomas, or the Holy Quran. That must be done in order to preserve them as treasures for all humanity. But there is more.

We should not only fix our gaze upon supernatural hope; we must also resolve ourselves to make a living here in the world. Thus there are political, social, and economic ideological treasures which must also be preserved. Democracy is not oligarchy; society is not exclusive; and economy is not predisposed to concentrations of wealth in the hands of a few hundred or thousand out of hundreds of millions of We, the people. We will not allow those treasures to be buried.

Jefferson went on to write two other propositions: “… 1. whenever any government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the people to alter it, 2. and to institute new Government…”. So, now, what are you waiting for? “The point is to change it.”

A QUESTION THE HADITH DOES NOT ANSWER: by Dr. Steven Nur Ahmed

 Hadith 1

Can the practice of slavery in the Muslim world be tolerated by Muslims? That question and the lack of a definitive answer from Muslims has caused a divide between African American descendants of slaves and Muslim communities.

Pan-Africanists, Afro-centrists, Socialists, Secularists, and African Pagan scholars who are descendants of slaves have long voiced their animosity toward Arab and Turkish Muslims because their ancestors endorsed and participated in a ruthless African slave trade for many centuries. Some of them make their arguments against Islam based upon malicious motives and feelings but the issue itself is rightly expressed and warrants a response.

It is morally imperative that Muslim scholars and jurists directly address the issue of slavery to those communities because the historical fact is that some Muslims did practice slavery and some Muslims still think that the enslavement of human beings is sanctioned by both the Quran and Hadith.

arab_slaverholdingafricans

It is an incontrovertible fact that Black Africans were enslaved, raped, tortured, and murdered, by Sunni Arabs, Orthodox Christians, and Sunni Ottoman Turks during the rise of Islamic empires and their fall. The leaders of those empires justified the institution of slavery on one or more of the 12 or 13 Hadiths or sayings of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). But the truth is that the rich and powerful of those empires were greedy and ambitious men who had insatiable appetites for worldly luxuries and used slavery as a way to drive their economies and thereby satisfy their lusts.  But what now in the 2100 century?

I have often thought what would Malcolm X say today about the indorsement and institutionalization of slavery by Muslims in the past and present?

I think that he would argue, having been a descendent of slaves himself, that even though slavery was sanctioned as permissible (Halal) 1400 years ago by both the Quran and Hadith its place in the Muslim community has always a dubious one.

One example is prostitution. Prostitution is illegal in Muslims societies. Prostitution is an act by a male or female whereby they sell their body to another for money. Here the ‘body’ is used by a buyer for their sexual gratification. It is a kind of human enslavement. Here, the logical contradiction is clear. Some forms of slavery cannot be tolerated as moral while at the same time other forms of slavery are criminalized.

Another example can be found in both the Quran and Hadith. Both are ambiguous concerning the practice of slavery. On the one hand the Quran sanctions slavery and yet on the other hand it says the enslavement of a human being is contrary to the relation of a human creature to Allah.

For example, the Quran lays down the fundamental premise regarding slavery: “It is unacceptable for a mortal that Allah should give him the Book and the wisdom and ‘Nabuwah’ (prophethood), then he should say to men: Be my slaves rather than Allah’s;… “.[3:79]Here, the Quran forbids slavery to Muslims, Christians, and Hebrews; and in no uncertain terms, the Quran states that all souls belong to Allah.

Clearly, a general principle in the Quran takes precedence over all particular ancient tribal customs and voids them when such practices are contrary to it or contradict it.

We know that slavery predated the origin of Islam and its first community. We further know that the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) freed slaves himself.

The practice of slavery was contradicted on many occasions when the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) freed slaves for many different reasons including to prevent crimes against humanity, for marriage, for conversion to Islam, and as a penalty against Muslim slave owners who committed acts of human cruelty.

Egyptian_Slavemaster_and_Slave

Slavery in Islam therefore was not then nor is now a doctrinal pillar of Islam nor did Islamic law legally ever qualify some human beings as being inferior by nature and thus subject to perpetual servitude.

Historically, systemic slavery was an economic innovation instituted by the Abbasid Empire (748-1258 C.E.) for exactly the same reasons the Roman Empire instituted slavery.  To generate wealth.

Arab Slavers

“As the plantation economy boomed and the Arabs became richer, agriculture and other manual labor work was thought to be demeaning. The resulting labor shortage led to an increased slave market.

It is certain that large numbers of slaves were exported from eastern Africa; the best evidence for this is the magnitude of the Zanj revolt in Iraq in the 9th century, though not all of the slaves involved were Zanj. There is little evidence of what part of eastern Africa the Zanj came from, for the name is here evidently used in its general sense. The Zanj were needed to take care of the Tigris-Euphrates delta, which had become abandoned marshland as a result of peasant migration and repeated flooding, [which] could be reclaimed through intensive [slave] labor. Wealthy proprietors “had received extensive grants of tidal land on the condition that they would make it arable.”  The rise of Shīʻa Islam [in an anti-slavery movement] also occurred around this time …”[i]

Nevertheless, the issue today is whether or not Muslim scholars and jurists can overcome their silence concerning slavery and make fatwa or opinions to the whole world against slavery in the world?

Furthermore, can Muslims engage in discussions about slavery in the Muslim world and not be charged with committing Bid’dah or harmful innovation?

I believe that Muslim scholars and jurists or ulema can come out of the deep dark intellectual hole surrounding the issue of slavery; I believe that Malcolm X would have made the argument that slavery is absolutely and categorically forbidden in Islam and that its practice is a crime against humanity.

I add that it is also necessary that individual Muslims everywhere disavow slavery. I think Muslims should because the enslavement of human beings is the practice of tyranny and oppression and Islam is against oppression. To pretend to be the master over another human being as property when Allah is the only Master over all of humanity is an act of defiance against God.

Furthermore, the practice of making people slaves voids one’s claim to be a Muslim. All the prayers of such a person will fall like lead balls onto the ground. There is a legal basis under Sharia Law to make this clear.

I have heard many Muslims argue on the basis of Hadith or the ‘Book of Sayings’ of the Prophet that slavery is justified simply because it is qualified as permissible in both the Hadith and the Quran.

If you counter their arguments for slavery then some of them go so far as to claim that you are committing ‘Bidah’ or innovation which is a change contrary to Islam or they claim that you are not Mujtahid (one qualified to give opinion on Hadith and Quran.) Then I’ve seen them walk away and instead of getting on a horse they get in their car, a bad innovation, and drive away.

They drive away without the least concern that they are tearing the ‘fitrah’ (Fitra, or fitrah, in Arabic) or fabric of creation by poisoning the environment we all depend upon to live with carbon dioxide.

Those kind of Muslims deny any argument on the basis of ‘bid’ah hasana’. ‘Bid’dah Hasana’ means ‘good innovation’. Good innovations are permissible in Islam. Yet those same kinds of people claim to be for what is good and claim that they have faith in Allah. But the truth is, you cannot claim to fight against injustice everywhere while at the same time you preserve an unjust practice upon others in the form of slavery. Those two orientations are mutually exclusive. You either stand for justice or you stand for injustice.

According to the Holy Quran and the Hadith, the practice of taking slaves in Islam was neither obligatory in times of peace nor war. Muslims were not compelled by law to own slaves. What is not obligatory need not be practiced. Therefore, slavery can be banned in the Muslim community because it is not necessary.

Neither can it be argued rightly that the practice of taking slaves was ‘highly recommended’ or ‘Mustahabb’ for Muslims because over ninety percent of Muslims in the past did not own slaves nor aspire to do so. Nor did official policies exists as incentives to encourage Muslims to aspire to own slaves.

It can be argued that enslaving other human beings in the past was generally frowned upon. It thus could be classified as ‘offensive’, ‘detestable’, or ‘abominable’ ‘Makrooh’ (Arabic) because of the unavoidable cruelty or oppression to another human being which follows. That would have qualified Arab, Turkish or Muslim slave traders as immoral and to have been practitioners of what is evil called forbidden in Islam at that time as well as today.

For example, countless thousands of African boys who were enslaved from southern Sudan and Congo were taken to slave markets in Cairo, Egypt. There they would be auctioned like animals to Turkish slave traders. But, before being auctioned the African boys would be castrated. Most of them would die from bleeding to death or from infection. Those who didn’t die would be auctioned to Ottoman Turks who then would assign them to the harams of rich Turks and in the palace of the Ottoman Sultan. Muslims were not alone in this barbaric practice.

Here is a scholarly account, and I quote: “The concubines were guarded by enslaved eunuchs, themselves often from pagan Africa. While Islamic law forbade the emasculation of a man, Ethiopian Christians had no such compunctions; thus, they enslaved and emasculated members of territories to the south and sold the resulting eunuchs to the Ottoman Porte.[29][30] The Coptic Orthodox Church participated extensively in the slave trade of eunuchs. Coptic priests sliced the penis and testicles off boys around the age of eight in a castration operation.[31] The eunuch boys were then sold in the Ottoman Empire. The majority of Ottoman eunuchs endured castration at the hands of the Copts at Abou Gerbe monastery on Mount Ghebel Eter.[31] Slave boys were captured from the African Great Lakes region and other areas in Sudan like Darfur and Kordofan then sold to customers in Egypt.[23][29]

During the operation, the [Christian] Coptic clergyman chained the boys to tables and after slicing their sexual organs off, stuck bamboo catheters into the genital area, then submerged them in sand up to their necks. The recovery rate was 10 percent. The resulting eunuchs fetched large profits in contrast to eunuchs from other areas.”[32][33][34][ii]

That practice was a crime against humanity and the people who practiced it were evil and thus are not qualified to be remembered as Muslims nor Christians.

Every Muslim scholar in the United States and Jurists such as the Grand Imam Ahmed el-Tayeb of Al-Azhar in Egypt and   the Chief Imam Abdul Rahman Al-Sudais of Masjid al-Haram in Mecca are advised to make fatwas against the practice of slavery.  Today, the Arab and Turkish world has decayed beyond regeneration. The handwriting is on the wall; when you institute mass dehumanization there are two losers. The victims and the abusers.
